WHAT YOU NEED TO ENTER

BASIC TERMS

Please read our Terms carefully. You will be required to accept these terms prior to entering work on the submission site.

Fees are $45.00 from April 1 – April 30 and $55.00 from May 1 – May 31. Submissions close May 31, 2015. Read more about why we charge a fee in our FAQ.

PHYSICAL COPIES VS DIGITAL CONTENT

You can provide your comic / book in any form you wish, either digital URL or physical copies during the initial judging round, as long as it is one full issue.

Should you become a nominee, we will need either one whole issue or a few pages of an issue (watermarked / scanned OK) in DIGITAL FORMAT to use on the public voting site. You decide what we show. Once the judges choose 5 nominees, the public will vote to choose a  winner using these digital materials. Please contact us with any issues on creating digital files from printed materials. Learn more about our process.

WORK ACCEPTED

  • Work created after June 2013. Must be published work, either by the creator online/in print or by another publisher. If your comic book is a series, one issue must have been published after this date.
  • Comic books, graphic novels and web comics of any length and form, including daily strips.
  • Comics NOT produced by major publishers—our show is for independent creators. We DO accept comics published by indie comic book publishers.

REQUIRED SUBMISSION MATERIALS

  • One full issue or strip. Links to a website are OK.

  • PDF/image upload (400MB—.ZIP files accepted for multiple images) OR Direct URL to your book, PDF or website. We allow links to Dropbox, as long as URLs take judges directly to your work and do not require them to sign up for an account.

  • Basic information about your work: title, creator(s), artist(s), writer(s), synopsis, number of pages, publishing company (or self), date released. We require the names of writers and artists for each work.

  • After you submit your entry, you’ll be emailed a link to post your work on The Geekie Awards website—this is an extra step! You’ll need an image representative of your project at this exact size: 650px wide x 366px tall or we cannot post your work. Click here to use a free online image resize tool.

PHYSICAL COPIES (OPTIONAL)

We accept physical copies in this category only for the initial judge round. In other words, you must still enter a digital version of your work. Download Instructions for Sending Physical Copies (PDF). This PDF includes the appropriate mailing labels.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Work will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Art: artist(s) quality of style and skill, ability to visually convey the story, dynamic compositions/framing, ability to infer the mood of the work
  • Story/Writing: creativity, coherence, flow from page to page, originality, strength of dialogue
  • Overall impression: did your work affect our judges or produce an emotional response? Does your work stand out from the other entries?
